Various ways of draping a dupatta (with lehenga choli)


Basic Terms

Choli : The Indian blouse called "choli" is the traditional attire and is usually worn with the saree or lehnga. It is essentially a low cut midriff baring blouse. It could either be sleeveless, half sleeves or full sleeves. The choli is cut to fit tightly.

Lehenga : Lehenga is a piece of cloth tied around the waist in a pleated fashion with the ends of the cloth left loose. The ends of the waist cloth were stitched. However it can be designed in different styles like A-line, Fish cut, kalidar etc.

Step by step instructions :


Method 1

  • Wear lehenga choli.
  • Now make five pleats of the dupatta neatly adjusting it, rest them on your shoulders, keep throwing the material or dupatta back, till you get the length which you require.
  • Take the material from front, pull it from the back covering your bust. Now, fix it up with a pin on the blouse, so that it does not fall off.
  • Bring the border tightly from left side covering the bust to the front pin it up on the sides.
  • Add another pin attatching the border with the waist band or with the lehenga.
  • Thus it gives a nicely fitted slim look to the wearer.

VARIATION-I

  • If you don’t want that the other end of the dupatta falling at back then you can bring it to the front resting them on right shoulder.

VARIATION-II

  • In this variation, you can fix up the corner of the falling part on your wrist with the help of a pin.
  • It always gives a modern look to the wearer

VARIATION-III

  • For a bridal look, you can drag the falling part or cowl of back for covering your head then fix it up with a black pin on your head or hair.
Embroidered Dupatta Drapping Methods

Method 2

  • Wear lehenga blouse or choli.
  • Start making pleats of the dupatta, now keep it on your right shoulder adjusting them properly.
  • Fix it up with a pin attatching it to the blouse on right shoulder.
  • The length of this is just going to be just above knee.
  • Now, drag the dupatta from front to the left side taking it to the back side covering the bust area finally pinning it at back.
  • This drape is done usualy on the wedding day for a bride.
